A few words from our doctor.
Dental Implants are abutments, like artificial roots, created to replace missing teeth or lost for any reason, capable of integrating completely to the bone. To the point of coexisting in a healthy and totally natural way with the rest of the tissues of the mouth.
Material of dental implants.
The implants are currently manufactured preferably chemically pure Titanium and act as substitutes for dental roots. After being placed inside the maxilla or mandible they serve so that, once they are osseointegrated, they give support to the new artificial teeth that will be attached to them.
How is the Implant attached to the Bone?
By a biological process known as Osseointegration, described by the Professor Branemark in the 50s, through which the organism establishes a direct connection between the bone and the surface of the implant. When osseointegration has occurred, the implant is firmly attached to the bone and can support a prosthesis to meet all functional and aesthetic requirements as if it were a healthy natural tooth. Another characteristic of osseointegration is to be very stable over time so these treatments offer satisfactory results that are enjoyed for many years.

Frequently asked questions about dental implants?
En esta sección encontrarás respuesta a la mayoría de tus dudas sobre el tratamiento, si aún así sigues sin respuestas, ponte en contacto con nosotros, estaremos encantados de poder ayudarte.
Is the treatment with implants annoying?
Los procedimientos quirúrgicos de antes, durante y después del tratamiento con implantes los tenemos muy bien protocolizados y habitualmente se realizan con una molestia mínima o nula.
In the vast majority of cases, they are performed under local anesthesia, just like many other dental treatments in our clinic and only the noise of the instruments and pressure sensations o “runruneo” en la zona.
During the postoperative period a slight discomfort </ strong> can occur when the anesthesia is stopped, but it is a minimum discomfort.
What is the maintenance phase?
Implant treatments have been shown in many research studies to have a high degree of safety. This security is based on the existence of exhaustive control and maintenance protocols.
The need to establish adequate monitoring and periodic maintenance care is justified to avoid both bacterial contamination and possible misalignments of the prosthesis by the wear that the function and the passage of time can cause.
The maintenance reviews are aimed at controlling the evolution of treatment results over time, detecting early any unfavorable situation that may occur and acting accordingly. In the most probable case that no problems appear, diagnostic and preventive routines are executed aimed at guaranteeing the long-term health of the treatment that are individualized by the Implantological Team for each specific case.
How is the surgical phase?
The placement of dental implants requires one or several surgical interventions to prepare the bone bed and install the implants.
Depending on each case, this placement can be done in one or two stages or surgical acts.
If the surgical procedure is performed in two phases, in the first phase the implant is inserted, leaving it completely covered by gum for a variable period of time. In the second phase, usually several weeks later, a small incision is made in the gum to check the good condition of the implant and make the connection of the abutment that remains in contact with the buccal environment and will serve as a link to the future prosthesis.
When the implant is placed in a single surgical stage, which is nowadays performed more and more frequently, the fixation or implant is installed and at the same time a connection component that remains in contact with the buccal environment, called the transepithelial pillar or healing.
In specific cases, it is possible that in the same day the surgical procedure and the placement of a fixed dental prosthesis are performed.
The choice of one procedure or another depends on individual criteria that will be assessed by the Implantological Team.
¿Pueden ser rechazados por el organismo?
Most dental implants are manufactured with surgical titanium, a material that has been shown to be biocompatible, bioinert, stable, able to integrate with bone (osseointegration) and very good tolerance by soft tissues.
It is a metal that has not shown any toxic or irritative reaction on living tissue, this means that the body does not recognize it as foreign. Therefore, the possibility of it producing a reaction of rejection or allergy to this type of material is highly unlikely.
However, during the months following their placement, the implants may suffer complications that result in the lack of osseointegration and, therefore, may have to be removed. These situations, although rare, are usually due to reasons such as: infections of the operated area, deficiencies in vascularization, alterations in the reparative processes of the organism such as those that are frequent in smokers and stress or functional overload when they support a prosthesis.
Who can advise me correctly?
Surely, the first information about implants will have been provided by your dentist, who is fully trained to perform the diagnosis and therapeutic alternatives.
After his study, he will often suggest the collaboration of other professionals with particular dedication to dental implantology and special knowledge of Periodontics, Prosthetics or other areas of Dentistry and Medicine.
The group of professionals that intervene to reestablish their oral health through treatments with dental implants, is known as “The Implantological Team”. Trust your dentist and the components of the “Implantological Team”, with the conviction that both to inform you and to achieve an optimal aesthetic and functional result, the coordinated work of these professionals, who count on the inestimable help of a large number, is desirable. group of highly qualified collaborators among which include radiologists, hygienists, dental assistants and dental laboratory technicians. All of them will help you increase your health and well-being.
Are dental implants affordable?
The treatment by means of implants requires to make available to the patient procedures and material means with a great technical sophistication. They carry a higher cost compared to conventional prosthetic alternatives that will also depend on the extent and complexity of the necessary rehabilitation.
When the evaluation of the treatment is made based on the benefits obtained, the cost-benefit ratio is normally more favorable than any other alternative.
If you want to know what the cost of your specific case would be, the dentists that make up your Implantological Team will assess your case and, if you wish, will issue a previous budget and provide you with the different alternatives to assume the amount and thus achieve that the cost is not an inconvenience to recover your health and your aesthetics.
How long does the treatment last?
The treatments with dental implants have shown results of duration, comfort, aesthetics, reliability and predictability far superior to other substitute treatments of natural teeth. Research on the techniques that have enabled the Osseointegrated Implantology present part of 1965 and, today, there are patients who have prostheses on dental implants for more than 30 years.
As with the results of other dental and medical treatments, the permanence in the mouth of the implants and the prosthetic rehabilitation they support depends to a great extent on the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the patient and their habits, as well as on the type of alteration that has caused the loss of teeth. It is not possible to offer a general estimate for all patients of the expected time of stay for the implants, but in any case the current dental implants do not have known expiration.
Tras valorar su caso concreto, su Equipo Implantológico podrá ofrecerle una estimación aproximada de la probable duración de su tratamiento.
What problems can be derived?
We know that 98% of implants are integrated into the bone after placement. At fifteen years of age more than 90% of the implants placed in the upper jaw and mandible continue to function properly. This places osseointegrated dental implants among the most reliable surgical techniques of all those performed in humans.
The failure of a treatment with dental implants can happen in the initial stages when the implant is not integrated, usually due to infections or poor biological conditions of the patient. In later stages, once the osseointegration has taken place, complications can occur due to alterations caused by misalignments or fractures of the prosthesis or the elements of the prosthesis with the implants, as well as by infections. If these problems are detected early and corrected, the implant may remain healthy. Otherwise, implants may be lost.
